Plan Your Trip - And Safety

  • This is what the signs look like.  They are

mounted on a white wooden board and are

on a green stake about 4' high.

  • Let someone else know where your going or ideally do the course with a few friends - one to stay with an injured perso and one to fetch for help. â€‹â€‹

  • Check the weather and dress accordingly.

  • Wear proper footwear. The course has some small

water crossings on it, but barring major rainfalls you can avoid               getting wet if you adjust a bit where you cross

  • Clothing – the area is fairly wide open and there are very few thorny areas so long pants are helpful.  The areas where they’re at, you can avoid with a quick offset.

  • Leave plenty of time to return before dark.  There are trails that run throughout the course which can aid in returning to the parking area.  See the map.  Consider bringing a flashlight with you.

  • Know your pace count.  Click here to learn how to get yours.

  • Parking is tight.  Currently there is only a dirt intersection that has some room for you to pull to the side. Please do not block the road. People live beyond the course. As well, please don’t cross over the dam road – that is a private residence up on the hill.

  • If you’re coming with multiple cars, please park under the overpass. It’s about a 5 minute walk to the starting area from there.  Any large groups can contact dandachelet@gmail.com while planning your outing to deconflict and talk through and logistics.

  • Bring water and Food if you think you’ll be out there for any length of time.

  • Know your cutoffs.  The course is bounded by roads on all 4 sides.

  • Charge your phone (and maybe bring a battery back up). There is cell service while on the course.

  • Be mindful of private property.  Most areas that are near private property are well marked with signs.

  • Leave the course cleaner then you found it.

  • Avoid wetlands and vernal pools. There are a few on the course.  Please use offsets (go around). These will be marked on the Orienteering map.

  • Look before you lean.  There are many trees that are dead and still standing.  Please don't lean or push on these trees so they don't fall on you.
